October 2006

President Bush signed into effect a bill proposing a fence covering 700 miles of the US/Mexico border today, in a daring attempt to prevent everyone but skaters and Shaun from crossing the border unpermitted. The cost? Well, like Iraq, the administration seems unconcerned with where the money will come from:

Its cost is not known, although a homeland security spending measure the president signed earlier this month makes a $1.2 billion down payment on the project.

The only positive result is that this fence will create new jobs for a short period of time. Hmm, I wonder how those jobs will be regulated, seeing as we’ve still done nothing to prevent the actual AMERICAN employers who are hiring illegal immigrants in the first place from doing so. Not that I personally think we have any sort of problem with illegal immigration, but logically the accountability would fall on the people paying the workers, wouldn’t it?

As for anyone who thinks this fence will improve security, it covers one third of the border between Mexico and the US, which should what? Dumb found terrorists who spend most of their time planning out their operations (unlike the US military)? I think they can plan for a car ride to the nearest edge…

The Army revealed their new slogan on Monday.  In a marketing campaign equalling $1 billion over five years, the Army’s publicists came up with a slogan as simple minded and blindly caveman-esque as the people they hope to enlist.  I mean seriously: $200 million for “Army Strong”.  That’s $100 million per word.  And they wonder why we’re pissed.

Sorry to continue on the Mark Foley story, as I realize it’s actually pretty boring, but this was brought to my attention earlier this morning and I felt I had to share; it comes originally from Fox News, the “fair and balanced” network:

FOX

Yes, that’s right, ladies and gentlemen. Upon discovery of his pedophilic leanings, FOX has taken it upon themselves to drop him from the Republican party. Apparently this wasn’t an isolated screen shot, as we’ve heard from several sources that FOX has been reporting the Republican Representative as a Democrat for a few days now.  To be fair to Fox, it must be really hard to check all those “facts” they air on a daily basis.  I mean, not everyone can google as well as an 8 year old (sorry, Mark, wasn’t trying to get you excited).

In updates on the actual story, Foley is still a Republican and a pedophile, and no, the fact that it was a boy doesn’t make the story any more or less anything.
